Superposition of two images: a schlieren image of a HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) transducer, which is shown as a blue background and mostly blue beam, at the beginning, and a video of color-indicating gel as a rectangle, both registered at exactly the same location. The transducer generates a high intensity field which heats up the gel which in turn changes from transparent to white color. This combination of images is used to understand the evolution of a lesion caused by a HIFU field. The waist in the lesion, however, is not seen in tissue, and may be the result of the lack of perfusion.
